When youโ€™re living in South Korea, youโ€™ll be working and going out on most days. Going outside comes with changing into different clothes, so using an automatic washing machine is convenient for those who live alone or donโ€™t have much time to do their laundry.

There are two types of automatic washing machines in South Korea: Top-loading โ€œSetaggiโ€(์„ธํƒ๊ธฐ) and Front-loading โ€œDeureomsetaggiโ€(๋“œ๋Ÿผ์„ธํƒ๊ธฐ) machine.ย

Laundry machine menu

Each type of machine has different labels on its menu, but all of them have the same mode options such as the waterโ€™s temperature, laundry modes, and spinning speed.

Power

There are buttons for On/Off called โ€œJeon-won(์ „์›)โ€ and a start/pause button called โ€œDonjak/Ilsijeongji(๋™์ž‘ / ์ผ์‹œ์ •์ง€)โ€.ย 

Timer

There will also be a timer on these washing machines to indicate how much time you have left before the door unlocks and spinning ends you can add or reduce the time set for your laundry.

There will be another panel for the type of spin cycle. There is also a light indicator that shows what type of cycle itโ€™s currently doing.

Once the washing machine is turned on, youโ€™ll have to choose what type of clothes youโ€™ll be washing. There will be a list of different types of laundry on your washing machine:

After choosing the type of laundry, you can choose the water temperature(cold or hot) for your clothes.

Lastly, youโ€™ll be choosing the spinning speed for your laundry. Depending on the type of fabric and its thickness, you can choose a gentle wash or a stronger wash.

There are different brands of laundry detergent and fabric softeners in the market, so itโ€™s better to choose what suits you better. Here are some terms you should be familiar with when choosing the right ones:
